Asian Pattern Languages of Programs, People, and Practices
The Hillside Group has helped organize PLoP conferences in the Asian Pacific region, including AsianPLoP, MensorePLoP, and KoalaPLoP. The Asian Conference on Pattern Languages of Programs, People, and Practices (AsianPLoP™) was established in 2010 as the premier event in the Asian Pacific region for pattern authors and enthusiasts to gather, discuss, and learn more about patterns, design, software development, communities, education, and the built world in general. AsianPLoP is the Asian edition of the Pattern Languages of Programs, which was originally focused on software-related patterns and pattern languages. PLoP conferences have expanded into all aspects of the built world—anything that is designed and made by people, including organizations, culture, and individual practice. The wide-ranging developments led the Hillside Group to rename PLoP from Pattern Languages of Programs to Pattern Languages of Programs, People & Practices starting in 2024. The following are links to the previous editions of AsianPLoP.
Originating in the work of Christopher Alexander on building architecture, these ideas have been further developed in computer science, fundamentally changing the perception of software development. Much of the pioneering work in this area originated at this and other PLoP conferences worldwide. Patterns and pattern languages have expanded to many other areas, including art, well-being, learning, psychology, organizational development and change, sociology, and anthropology. PLoP encourages a variety of submissions regardless of the area they target. At the conference, papers are discussed in Writers’ Workshops with groups of paper authors and possibly other conference participants. Authors are expected to take into account the comments they received in the Writers’ Workshops to improve their papers. You can find more information on Writers’ Workshops here and more about how to run PLoPs here. PLoP is a registered trademark of The Hillside Group.
